About Us

The Summit Academy is McDowell County’s alternative middle and high school.
Summit Academy offers students unique learning experiences with academic,
behavioral, and emotional support to students of all backgrounds in grades 6-12.

Students are assigned to Summit Academy through a referral process which is
initiated by the student’s home school.

Summit Academy provides students access to core courses and certain CTE
electives. Faculty and staff members help students recognize strengths,
overcome obstacles, and prepare students behaviorally and socially to be
successful citizens.
