5th Grade Math Teacher
Mrs. Reel has been an educator in McDowell County for twenty-four years. She spent most of that time in the classroom teaching grades 2nd through 6th. Seven of her years in our school system were spent as an Academically and Intellectually Gifted Specialist. Mrs. Reel graduated in 1996 from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC where she earned her BS in Elementary Education. She received her AIG certification in 2002. She is currently working on her Masters in Comprehensive Elementary Education with a concentration in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Education. Mrs. Reel loves teaching math and watching young learners develop mathematical understanding and number sense.
Mrs. Reel has four children who are, or have been, students in McDowell County Schools. She feels that this fact helps her develop an understanding of what public education should look like and how each student should be treated in the classrooms of Old Fort Elementary and MCS. Her motto is: Never treat, nor ask of another child, what you would not want for your own.
Mission Statement:
¨My mission as an educator is to grow lifelong learners and leaders. I believe that every child has greatness within themselves and I will work every day to help each child recognize his/her true potential. I believe that through hard work, dedication and perseverance children can rise to success that will shape their future.¨
