McDowell High School is excited to announce that veteran staff member and long time coach, Mr. Joe Cash, will transition into a new role as the Interim Director of Titan Athletics.
Mr. Cash is a 1984 graduate of McDowell High School where he was a three sport athlete in football, basketball, and track. During his senior year, he was named the Titans’ Male Athlete of the Year and all conference in football, basketball, and track. Mr. Cash was also selected for the All Western North Carolina Football Team, as well as the East-West all star football game. A member of the McDowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Mr. Cash has been on staff at McDowell High since 1992. He is enthusiastic about the opportunity to impact students and the community on a larger scale in this new role. Mr. Cash states that “athletics have played an integral role in his life for as long as he can remember, and he can be found at games even on days when he is not working or coaching.”
McDowell High School is focused on putting the right people in the right places to best serve students and families. With 22 years experience coaching football and 29 years coaching basketball, Mr. Cash will be an outstanding leader for Titan Athletics. He has knowledge and experience in multiple sports and youth organizations. Mr. Cash garners high praise from McDowell High School principal, Mr. Edwin Spivey, who notes that Joe “brings a wealth of knowledge through his varied coaching experiences and will be a tremendous asset to our coaches, athletes, parents and community”. Former Athletic Director, Mr. Keith Ledford, will continue in his role as Assistant Principal and Transportation Coordinator for the high school. Mr. Ledford served the student athletes and coaches well in his previous role. His dedication to Titan Athletics is greatly appreciated.
