I am pleased to serve on the McDowell County Board of Education as a representative for the
Marion District.

I am a 1982 graduate of McDowell High School. I served in the U.S. military. I graduated from
Western Carolina University in 1989. I completed my Behavioral Emotional Handicap teaching
certification (1998) and completed by Adult Education certification (2005).
I worked as the Director of Education at Mayland Community College from 1998 to 2009. I
completed my career working as an auditor/trainer with the NC Department of Transportation
School Bus and Traffic Safety, with 30 years of service with the State of NC.
I have served as the Director of the McDowell County Shooting Range for the past three years. I
enjoy developing programs for the youth of McDowell County and WNC, such as the archery
program and Train Up a Child, which focuses on teaching gun safety to young adults.

I am very proud to have raised twin girls who graduated from McDowell Early College and
completed their Bachelors in Science degrees from Western Carolina University. I have been
married to my beautiful wife, Gail, for 33 years.
