The data notebook documents progress that can predict growth and provide "no surprises" at the end of each grading period. Information gained through progress monitoring allows us to confirm that our strategies are working or to find strategies that do work! A collection of progress monitoring enriches the present level narrative and helps to determine appropriate goals.
