McDowell County Schools partner with A Caring Alternative to provide a secondary and an elementary day treatment program. Day Treatment is a mental health/substance abuse (MH/SA) service defined by and funded through the Division of Medical Assistance (DMA-Medicaid). It is not identified as an educational service although it is operated in partnership with the school system and is required to coordinate with the school system. This service is designed to help children who, as a result of their mental health and/or substance abuse treatment needs, are unable to benefit from participation in academic or vocational services at a developmentally appropriate level in a traditional school or work setting.
Elementary Day Treatment is located at West Marion Elementary, 820 Marler Rd, Marion, NC.
Secondary Day Treatment is located at East McDowell Middle School, 676 State Street, Marion, NC.
