March 2-6 is National School Breakfast Week (NSBW). The #NSBW2020 theme is "School Breakfast - Out of this World". It reminds everyone how school breakfast provides a healthy, energizing start to a day of learning. Fit, healthy students are ready to learn.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it...
- Strengthens the brain
- Helps establish healthy eating habits
- Offers and opportunity to try new foods
- Improves mood and behavior
- Gives you energy
- Keeps you healthy
With all these benefits, why wouldn't you eat breakfast?
Try school breakfast. Most North Carolina schools offer breakfast each school day including a choice of entrée, fruit and/or 100% juice, and low fat and fat free milk. All McDowell County students can participate AT NO COST WITH UNIVERSAL BREAKFAST.
It is the goal of McDowell County School Nutrition Services to see that all children have access to healthful meals at school. The nutrition program is structured to offer nutritious choices to help children develop healthy food habits for a lifetime. The program is operated on sound business principles and practices, as it is the only self-supporting program in the school system.
School Nutrition has 90 employees who serve 7,000 lunches and 3,000 breakfasts daily. They are housed in 11 school sites. In addition, they cater meals to 5 Head Start Centers and 3 preschools as well as the Accelerated Learning Center.
