Special Called Meeting 1/25 at 6:30 PM

The McDowell County Board of Education will meet in a Special Called Meeting on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 6:30 PM in the Board Meeting Room of the Central Office located at 334 South Main Street, Marion, NC. The purpose of the meeting will be the approval of the School Improvement Plans, A Board appointment to the NCSBA Legislative Committee, a Closed Session for Personnel Considerations and to consider any other business properly before the Board. There will be no session for Public Comment. Public Comment will be heard during the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Board.

Schools closed for students 1/25/2016

McDowell County Schools will be closed for students Monday, January 25. It will be an annual leave day for teachers.

We will continue to monitor road conditions Monday and make an announcement for Tuesday as soon as possible to allow families to make plans.

Budget Committee Meeting

The Budget Committee of the McDowell County Board of Education will meet at 8:30 AM on January 5, 2016 in the Board Room of the Central Office located at 334 South Main Street, Marion, NC. The purpose of the meeting will be to review the Audit Report.

Graphic Novel Author Visits East McDowell Middle School

East McDowell Middle School was pleased to host author Matthew K. Manning on Friday, November 13th. Mr. Manning is the author of forty graphic novels and comic books. He writes for both Marvel and DC Comics. He also publishes with DK books and Capstone. He presented a history of comics to students and allowed them to participate by playing comic trivia game. He also called students on stage to help act out one of his recently published comics and then explained the process of creating a comic. Mr. Manning encouraged students to pursue their dreams. He explained the hard work and determination that it takes to write a comic or a book. In addition, to his presentations, Mr. Manning enjoyed lunch with students and also signed copies of his books at a book signing party.
